Yesterday turned out to be a very busy one in the barn. At the 4:00pm barn check I found a ewe with a water bag and in labor. She had a large single ewe lamb. She is a first time mom so I'm watching them carefully to make sure they are doing well.
At the 10:00pm barn check, Audrey decided to make a liar out of me and have lambs late at night. She was so anxious for a lamb that she kept trying to adopt all of the other lambs in the barn. I finally gave her a stern talking to and told her to lay down and deliver her own lambs. Surprisingly, she seemed to listen to me and delivered 2 good size lambs - a ram and a ewe.
Everyone seems to be doing pretty good this morning but I will keep a careful watch over them today.
The funny thing last night was that while Audrey was in labor she was in the pen with the rest of the ewes, as all of our lambing jugs were full. All of the other ewes turned their backs to her as if to give her some privacy. It was quite something to watch. As soon as the lambs were born, they all ran over to see the new babies and seemed to ooohhh and ahhhhh over them.
